Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a cancer that forms in the cells of the breast. It is one of the most common forms of cancer among women in all parts of the world. It is most common among women aged 50 and above, although it is not surprising for younger women to develop breast cancer at an earlier age.

People with breast cancer will begin to notice lumps in the breast area. They may or may not notice pain, discoloration, or discharge. It is highly recommended to have a breast ultrasound performed to determine the quality and quantity of the masses discovered.

Common forms of treatment in the medical world consist of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgical operations. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the patient’s body in an effort to kill the cancer cells, however, this leads to life threatening side effects. Radiation therapy is similar to “burning” the infected area. Surgical operations can range from total mastectomy which means removing the entire breast or simply removing the tumor. A combination of these three types of treatment is often used.
